Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes several notable adjustments:
- Each team has only eight real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities done by real players award full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers looking for alternative ways to enjoy the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 fans are upset.
Community Reactions: Anger to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and another lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Community Input
Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes due to the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the system. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
