I believed I nicked it - Carey on overturned decision.

Australian gloveman Alex Carey revealed he thought he had edged the ball when he was given not out on review during day one of the 3rd Ashes series Test against the English.

After surviving on 72, Carey went on to make a excellent 106 to guide the home side post 326-8 at the stumps in Adelaide.

The Key Moment

The home side were 245 for 6 when Carey attempted a cut shot to seamer Josh Tongue.

England were convinced they had a wicket, certain they had detected an nick, but umpire Ahsan Raza was unmoved.

After skipper Ben Stokes challenged the decision, the technology reviewed by third umpire Chris Gaffaney showed a significant spike but this registered prior to the ball had made contact with the bat.

Gaffaney also said he was of the opinion there was a clearance between bat and ball.

As a result, Carey was given not out.

"There was a sound, I thought I'd nicked it," stated Carey.

"If I was given out I think I would have reviewed it, probably not confidently. There was a definite noise."

Discussion has swirled about 'the sound wave technology' throughout the Ashes contest after a several unclear calls.

England's bowling coach David Saker hinted England may escalate this most recent incident to a higher level with the match official Jeff Crowe.

"So far we've let it go, but this might push us to take action," Saker said.

"It's been a worry for us all series long. The focus should be on cricket, not technology failures. That's the situation."

Carey's century was his first in Test cricket against England.

It was also an poignant moment for Carey, whose father passed away in September. Carey's wife was emotional in the crowd as the batsman celebrated by looking to the skies.

"I guess you know as well why I was looking to the heavens. It's hard not to get emotional. But, no, it was great."
