People have gathered throughout the country to mark 24 months since the Hamas-initiated attack on October 7th, 2023, as discussions proceeded in Egypt over a conclusion to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The attack saw in excess of 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the single most lethal day for Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by initiating a military offensive in Gaza which has taken over 67,000 people, according to the territory's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its numbers are considered accurate by the UN and other international bodies.

"The bloodthirsty opponents have struck forcefully, but they have not overcome us," the leader added on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the aims of the war: the return of all the captured, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer present a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Ceremonies Across Israel

The Israeli government postponed formal remembrance events until 16 October - after the end of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still were held across the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the loved ones of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas incident was conducted in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the families themselves, it was televised on Israeli TV networks.

Hours earlier, a moment of silence was respected around the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams convened in the Egyptian tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to discuss the terms of the proposal.

A high-ranking Palestinian official familiar with the discussions revealed that an night meeting of negotiations began at 7 PM local time.

The source stated the earlier meeting concluded without significant progress, due to disagreements over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas demands to guarantee Israel does not resume hostilities after the initial stage of the agreement.

He added that the negotiations are "difficult and have still not produce any major advancement," but mentioned that intermediaries are working hard to reduce the disparities between the both parties.

Critical Points in Negotiations

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The trade of the prisoners still held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The removal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Arrangements for humanitarian aid provision
  • Future administration of the region

Civilian Sentiment

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square previously, young a woman - whose sibling lived through the assault on the gathering, where many attendees were killed and numerous more were taken hostage by Hamas fighters - told: "No place feels like home anymore and until all the hostages come back no one will feel safe."

"Once we see everyone home again, we can breathe anew. Then we can start to recover," she continued.

Near the prime minister's residence in the capital, people congregated to show their backing for the families of the abducted. Israel reports nearly fifty stay in captivity in Gaza, twenty of whom are thought to be living.

Demonstrator Atalia Regev remarked: "We need do any agreement needed for the captives to come back home. But we sincerely need guarantees that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that about seventy percent of Israeli citizens prefer the hostilities to finish in exchange for the freedom of the hostages.

Gaza Situation

At the area of the music event, mourners assembled to pay their respects.

From the site, the boom of aerial bombardments and artillery could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the intense Israeli bombardment continued.

In Gaza City, air and artillery strikes were documented in the early hours of that day in the western district, area and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the eastern district of that sector, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"Once the evening comes, the fear comes with it," evacuated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing previously, shared.

"My family are afraid of the air strikes. Throughout the evening we are resting together, clinging, notably my little child who rests his head on me throughout the night."

"Every second we monitor the news to see the situation. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the war will resume to us."

Humanitarian Crisis

The medical facility in Gaza City said it had taken in the corpses of half dozen people by the daytime, including several who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the southern area.

Another medical facility in the south region of that area indicated two more dead people had been transported. An individual was lost his life by Israeli forces while attempting to get assistance to the southern area, health workers reported.

The region's health ministry reported a significant number of the {territ
