Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
