Supporters Call for Detainment of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the actress are demanding that a individual who jumped a fence and touched the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or removed from Singapore.
A viral clip reveals the individual from Australia shoving aside media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the actors walked down a yellow carpet accompanied by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being detained", though legal records indicated that he was scheduled to be present on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
History of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram account includes clips of him disturbing other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney show in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last year.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is evidently a legal violation," commented an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Fans Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Several followers blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented one more response on Instagram.
A number of attendees also faulted guards at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while others demanded social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande seemed startled when she was approached by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of fans had congregated in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore venue, including some who had waited for as long as eight hours before it began.
The film, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the sequel of a two-part adaptation of the well-known Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely relationship between two very different witches.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and earned a dozen Academy Award nods, winning several for best costume and artistic direction.
