The former Liverpool manager states coming back to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club remains something that could happen. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure that included a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait for three decades, has since taken on roles overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and providing guidance for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
They secured the league title under Arne Slot, but many fans who adore the manager would be thrilled by the idea of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I stated I refuse to lead another team in England. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, so I might decide later on, who knows. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on what circumstances would have to unfold to tempt his return to the dugout, he confessed he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be under bad weather through long matches; No need for media briefings four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats each week.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the players talking freely, is pleasant. We won a lot of games meaning regularly a very good mood at the club. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, praising him for the tweaks which secured the championship last campaign. Liverpool have lost four in a row in every contest following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the suggestion it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong well-judged squad. No need for concern regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and its impact on Liverpool. The Portugal international lost his life in a vehicle collision with his brother recently.
“How do you replace a person like him? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the team environment missing him. Putting it into words is tough about it. A profound tragedy for his teammates too. No one within the club would cite it for poor performances but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Handling this individually is not easy. Unbearable.”
