The Showrunner Discloses He Knows How Pluribus Might Finish... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that Pluribus would turn into a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the hit series reaching its finale—and the next chapter already in development—the creative team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Audience Reaction

One could easily to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and fan theories about Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to force fed hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it from others, and that's on purpose. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

The Big Question: Will the creator See the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering the writers are not listening by fan response, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“There are some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to discard a decent plan for a better idea. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, one could always use the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
